Spore for mobile is a great companion to the awesome PC game. Like the original PC game, the game focuses around the character that you create and you guide it through the levels. The levels are divided
into locations such as muddy water or primordial ooze and you make your way through them by eating smaller cells.The mobile edition zeroes in on the tide pool segment of Spore’s five-stage evolutionary cycle. You grow a single-cell organism to the point it can escape the primordial waters and start a new life on land. Leaving the ooze is not going to be easy, though. Its survival of the fittest in there, and some pretty nasty-looking rivals try to out-Darwin you every step of the way. The main fundamental of the game is that you eat cells that are smaller than you and once you eat three, you gain a heart and grow. But it would be nice if your creature looked bigger. The game actually makes all the other cells smaller so it feels less rewarding. As you progress through the levels you randomly collect evolution points which can be used to upgrade your character with new evolutionary advances such as small wings that help you turn better, or a spike which can pop bubbles and stun enemies. For the purposes of the game it does everything it sets out to do well.

The graphics of the game are quite stunning for an iPhone game. The cute little creatures make the game a little bit more impressive when compared to its big brother Spore. The mobile editor also allows you to alter the size, shape and color of your creation in millions of different ways, make SPORE Origin more interesting to play.

Highlight “SPORE” in the games menu on your phone and press the “OK” button to start the game. You will be given the choice to play with or without sound. After you have made this selection, the EA and SPORE splash screen will be displayed. Press any key, and you will be put directly into the game.

The “Game Mode” menu appears. Highlight one of the following two options:

• EVOLUTION: Create a spore and start your climb to the top of the food chain.
• ARENA: Use the spores you’ve created to challenge other spores to battle.

After making your selection, press “OK” or the left soft key. Once the level loads, press “OK.” You will be placed in a tutorial that explains the game fundamentals. At any time during gameplay, press the right softkey (“Pause”) to access the Main Menu. Select from the following options:

• Resume: Continue the current game from the beginning of the most recent level.
• Change Game Mode: Toggle between Evolution, Survival, and Arena modes. Note that Survival mode will display only after Evolution mode has been successfully completed.
• Options: Toggle sound, vibration, and tutorial on and off. Also, saved data can be reset for a brand new Spore, and friends’ phones can be “infected” with the “Infect-a-friend” SMS feature.
• Help: Instructions and information on how to play the game.
• About: Customer service info and copyright information.
• More Games: Find more EA Mobile games for your phone.
• Exit: Exit the game.

How to Play

After launching the game, you are automatically sent to the beginning of Evolution mode.
Evolution: Use the D-pad to navigate your spore. Hold “OK” to dash toward smaller creatures and eat them. This will increase your DNA bar. If larger creatures touch you, you will take damage and shrink in size. Shrink too much and you’ll become extinct. As you continue to increase your health and grow, your hearts will fill, and your spore grows in size. You can also collect symbiotes for a special bonus. Burst bubbles by pushing them into teeth or spikes, and eat the food inside. When you have completed a level, your stats – both level and game – will be displayed. These stats include number of organisms eaten, damage taken, highest combo, symbiotes, time and score. Upon the completion of some levels you will have the option to customize your spore in the Editor. See Editor description below.

Survival: Use the D-pad to navigate your spore, and press OK to use the power-ups you have gained. Attempt to eat the spinning food modules before the enemies attack. Eat enough spinning food modules and your DNA bar will be filled, allowing you to progress to the next level.

Arena: A unique networked mode in which you can send your spore into competition against other spores created by other players. Watch the spores fight, send a Victory Cry and see how the Rankings board evolves!

Controls
Use the D-pad or number keys to move around. When in Evolution mode, press the “OK” key to dash towards food and eat. When in Survival Mode, press the “OK” key to use a Power-Up.

To pause the game while playing, press the right soft key. You will be taken to the Main Menu.

Saving/Resetting

Evolution Mode automatically saves at the end of each level; Survival Mode does not save your progress. All of your game data can be reset via “Reset Saved Data” within the Options menu.

Tips and Hints
Hold the “OK” key down for combos.
Choose your evolutionary parts carefully – certain combinations are more effective than others.
