LG GD510 Pop Review
|
LG recently has launched a new midrange touchscreen phone that called LG GD510 Pop. We have seen how capable the company to produce nice touchscreen devices, Arena and Cookies are the example to prove that. So, when it come with LG Pop we still believe the company able to make a excellent work again. DesignThe LG Pop GD510 measures a mere 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2mm in size, it is the smallest device that got a 3.2 inches screen that cover on the front to date. The screen is same unit as that on the LG Cookie, which is excellent too: great saturation, brightness and contrast. However, somehow the screen still not preform well under direct sunlight. Below the display, you will see the only single hardware key, which is in effect a multi-functional home key as well as Call/End button, but not to reject an incoming call. Overall, the design of Lg Pop is quite compact and solid, and really small and easily slip into tight jean’s pocket. And with only 87g of weight, it won’t burden you so much. Solar Power CoverYes, there will be a solar powered battery for LG Pop, but it is an optional extra. The solar charger actually is a cover for the Pop phone. For every ten minutes of sun exposure, the optional solar battery cover is said to give you over two minutes of talk time or 180 minutes of standby time for your LG GD510 Pop. The efficiency seem not too high, but it would be very useful when emergency. User InterfaceThe LG GD510 Pop is implementing the popular LG S-Class touch interface. This interface is more likely to seen in higher tier smartphone, and it is the first time LG give this UI to a midrange device. The UI is actually pretty much the same as on the LG Cookie but with some tweaks. There are three alternating homescreen panes. First screen is a widget-enabled screen that allows you to arrange several mini applications as you please. Second screen doesn’t have widgets but lets you arrange your contact icons. And the third is some thing that called Livesquare homescreen that also for contact applications but with different graphical interface. It is in essence a log of all your recent communications. To change to the other homescreen, just simply sweep your finger sideways across the screen. The screen turns over like you roll a cube. There are four shortcut icons at the bottom of the screen which including phone pad, the contacts, your messages, and the main menu. Unfortunately, these shortcuts are unable to customized. We are impress for the phone response. The interface has a very fast response, and there are very few noticeable lagging experienced. Music and VideoThe Lg Pop has a music player that can play most of the popular music files. It is not the typical S-Class music player, but this one is quite nice too. The player features Album Art visualization and lots of equalizer presets and can sort tracks by artist, album, genre, recently played as well as your own customized playlist. You can directly access the player on the homescreen with the dedicated mini player widget. The music quality actually is quite nice at it level. There is a FM radio with RDS support too. Just plug in your headset and you can listen to your favorite music stations. The Video player is also quite good as the music player, however DivX and XviD are not supported by the player. There is a built-in video editor too for you to edit your video and direct upload the video with the help of YouTube integration feature. CameraThe LG Pop has a 3.15 megapixel camera without autofocus and flash, so night photography is not really an option. The image quality is excellent for a 3MP camera, of course only in bright condition. The taken image has enough detail: vivid and contrasted quality, with low noise. As for video capturing concern, the camera only able captures video in up to QVGA resolution at 15 fps. The captured video is moderate, not good as the photography quality. Final WordsThe lack of high speed internet connection support would be the biggest letdown of LG GD510 Pop. There are no 3G nor WiFi supported by the phone. It’s probably to keep the price tag low to do so. Besides of that, we were impressed very much by the phone. For being a non-smartphone and budget device, Lg Pop would be one of the best at its range. |

You don’t need a “reject call” button.
Simply turn the phone “face down” and that’s it!
