LG GW520 Review

On August - 4 - 2009

LG a worldwide technology and design leader in mobile communications, recently has launched a social networking Qwerty keypad handset, The LG GW520.  It provides a full array of features and functions to access the online communities anytime, anywhere, with push updates from social networking sites and both business and personal email.

Design

The LG GW520 is measures 106.5 x 53 x 15.9mm and weighs 125.5 and a 2.8 inch TFT touch screen that displays 256,000 colors and is 240 x 400 pixels in size. The phone is a little bit bulky due to the pull out Qwerty keypad. The screen is not the biggest but able to provides excellent image and color reproduction. There is an accelerometer sensor intergrated which auto rotates images to their correct aspect for optimum viewing. You can have the phone screen in standard portrait mode or turn it to the landscape mode. Pull out  from the underside, you will see a 4 line Qwerty keypad. The keys was well organized and good tactile feedback make it extremely friendly to use.

Features

The LG GW520 has applying the push´ technologies which is previously the domain of high-end smart and business phones. We would very happy and welcome of the LG by including the technology in this handset. The ‘push’ technology is basically opening up your phone to a two-way dialogue with your various email and social networking accounts, whenever you receive emails, or when your friends update their Facebook pages, or other social networking site, the ‘push’ will ensure you receive alerts directly to your homescreen so you will get those information in the first time. A LG’s LiveSquare is another feature which enables the consumer to see those friends that you talk to most often appearing as an animated character on the homescreen. These characters enable quick and easy access to a contact at the click of a button.

For better experience in accessing the social network site, the LG GW520 internet access is provided by the HSDPA connection which offers access speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. This is more than enough for almost all website in the internet, and even video streaming site like youtube or matacafe. The other connectivity options include GPRS, Bluetooth v2.0, EDGE and microUSB v2.0. Unfortunately, WiFi is not included and it is the biggest drawback of the phone.

The phone’s MP3 player is able to play a vast array of audio formatted music files including AAC, AAC+, EAAC+ and WMA and also allows you to tune into your favourite radio station through stereo FM radio. Sadly the radio does not support RDS. Audio quality is fine, a mid-range standard. To play video, unfortunately the player only able to play MPEG-4 video format file.

The phone provides a 3.15 Mega pixel camera which can snap pictures with a maximum resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. The camera also have the capture video capabilities. Quality of pictures are great, sharp image and bright colors. However, in low light condition, pictures are not good enough since there has no LED flash. There is a photo and video editor for you to edit the picture that captured. The phone also has software allowing quick uploading and sharing of pictures.

Conclusion

LG GW520 is a high usability mobile phone that come with affordable price. Although the phone has no OS running on it, but the pre-installed software in this phone already accomplished it to be an excellent device.
