Nowadays, Music cellular mobile phone has become very popular. Almost all major mobile phone manufacturers have released their own music phone series such as Nokia Xpress Music phone and Sony Ericsson Walkman phone. For Motorola, ROKR E8 is one of its music phone series.

When I first saw Motorola ROKR E8 I didn’t realizes that it is no real button in its face. Instead, E8 is using pressure-sensitive haptic keypad. In other words, when you press the number 5, you will feel a slight vibration on it, which make you feel like you are pressing a real button. This hiptic keypad is not new anymore (LG Venus and Voyage already applied this feature) but among those hiptic keypad phone, Motorola ROKR E8 is the best because many of them didn’t really given real button feels like E8 did.

The other interesting feature about the keypad is when you switch to the music player mode, the phone buttons hide and all you can see are the relevant music control key only which is pretty cool. The same can be said about the “FastScroll” navigation wheel. Actually it’s not a real wheel because it doesn’t go all the way around. The concept is like the iPod click wheel in some ways. However the wheel is hardly to control. In some applications, like browsing the phone’s menus or the music lists, the wheel seemed so sensitive that you will always mistakenly choose.

As a music phone, Motorola ROKR E8 has a pretty good sound quality. The bass is good and mid-range is strong as well. The phone also features some good playback options, including an equalizer and stereo Bluetooth support. E8 is come with 2GB of onboard storage, which is probably enough for many user need, though the device also accepts 4GB microSDHC cards.

Motorola ROKR E8 is a music phone so I won’t expect so much on its camera function. Indeed, the 2 Mega Pixel camera only can take average quality picture. But what makes me surprise is the call quality of E8 which is very good as well.

I used to so disappoint by the Motorola’s phone lately because of the lack innovative and creativity of the company. But Motorola ROKR E8 as a music phone, no doubt it is a great phone.
