8Mp cameraphone is not something new, there are a lot of 8MP cameraphone out there in the market and the 12MP cameraphone era is coming very soon too. However, most of the recently released phone are still in ’5MP’ niche, so 8MP is still regards as a pretty advance cameraphone. This time Nokia finally released their first 8MP cameraphone, the Nokia N86 8MP. So let see what lied beneath this phone.

Design

The Nokia N86 8MP  is a beautiful looking dual slid phone that only measures 103.4 x 51.4 x 16.5 mm and weighting only 149g, and this
item’s size will satisfy its most skeptic users. However the weight making the Nokia N86 8MP the heaviest 8MP handset to date. Nokia N86 8MP front panel is mostly cover by the 2.6″ 16M-color AMOLED display of QVGA resolution. The screen able to display great image but somehow the sunlight legibility of the device is poor. Reading at outdoor is not a pleasant experience on this handset. Below the screen is the D-pad and navigation keys  that include the two soft keys, the Call and End buttons, the Menu key and the clear knob. And slide out unveiled the numeric keypad. The space between the different rows and columns are enough but the button is seem a bit small. There is also four multimedia keys on the top of the device when you slide down the phone.

Thera are use to  control the music player or the gallery and even to play game as well. Overall, the phone is quite conventional recent “N-series style dual slide handset” , but we are satisfied by the ergonomic and design of the phone.

Music Video and FM Radio/Transimtter

The music player in N86 8MP is able to play huge variety of music files such as MP3,eAAC+,WMA and etc. The player comes with five equalizer presets and if they seem insufficient, you can create new ones in a matter of seconds. Also the player is allowed to minimized to play in background and it will be a tab appear on stand-by screen indicating the currently running track. The audio quality is excellent, you can hear the high quality music even by the speaker phone only.  The 3.5mm audio jack is another great feature that allows the user to plug in compatible head phone.
For video, the video player can work in both portrait and landscape mode and can be switched to fullscreen. Due to the smallish of the screen, watching video on this device may not impressed too much, however you still can using to TV-out feature to watch it on your home big LCD TV. Unfortunately, the video player is not support DivX/XviD video format. You can only uising the Nokia PC Suite/Ovi Suite to transcode your videos to the MP4 format, or install a third-party video player, such as the popular Core Player.

The FM radio in this device is typical type. It has RDS support and can automatically scan and save the available stations in your area. More over, the radio also surpport online radio via Visual radio, but you will have to access to the internet connection first.

There is also a built-in FM transmitter in Nokia N86 8MP. It allows you to broadcast your favorite tracks over a predefined radio frequency. This feature is quite useful to broadcast your music in a your car.

Camera

As we know, the phone is come with a 8MP camera. Aside of that, the camera also come with other powerful features that includes a wide 28mm Carl Zeiss lens, autofocus, dual LED flash, Variable apperture and geotagging. The mechanical shutter works really fast and makes it possible to capture images with less blur.  On the other hand, Dual LED flash is also integrated that is enough for ensuring outstanding video capture and excellent photography.  The picture quality is sure is excellent. The high quality lens in the camera is one of the main reasons for the good quality of pictures that are taken. Another cameraphone innovation found on the Nokia N86 8MP is its variable aperture. It is also has large and multiple aperture that includes F2.4,f3.2,F4.8. The exposure range of the camera is wide and the wide angle optics range at 28mm that gives you roughly 20 percent larger angle of view when looking through the viewfinder. Actually the features of this camera is more attractive than it 8MP resolution.

Other Application

Despite being a cameraphone, the Nokia N86 8MP also have come with lots of well known application, such as Mobile office that view Word and Excel, PDF and PowerPoint files; ZIP manager for extracting archived files straight on your phone;a text-to-speech engine that can read phone content such as incoming messages or emails to you out loud; a GPS that Nokia Maps (currently renamed to Ovi Maps) though it is only three months of free voice guided navigation.
However, if you feel like not satisfied with the pre-installed applications, you can still choose plenty of third party software out there.

Final Words

We have impressed by Nokia had made this N86 8MP such a decent multimedia phone. Despite it have only major upgrade over the N85, but it is still a shining star at the market. The Nokia N86 8MP is more than a cameraphone, it is also a dual slider with a kickstand, N-gage gaming phone as well as a music phone. It is such a piece of comprehensive All-In-One device that rarely have seen on the market.
