Nokia X3

Nokia X3 Review

Nokia X3 is another music phone from the company latest lineup X. We have seen the Nokia X6 days ago, so now it is the turn for it sibling, X3. Unlike like X6, X3 is not a smartphone. It is only an entry-level phone with an affordable price and still, the phone  is designed for music lovers.

Design

Nokia X3 is designed in slider form-factor, which is quite similar with XpressMusic line-up. The front housed the 2.2-inch display with native resolution of 240×320 pixels. It is just a modest type, and is not touch sensitive.  Under the display, you will see the typical navigation pad and four soft keys around it. Open the slider unveiled the numeric keypad.  Although the keypad is short, but it sports large buttons which is quite easy to press. Overall, the handset measures 96 x 49 x 14 mm and weighting 103g. The size is quite comfortable to fit in palm if the sider is closed. The handset does look compact, but when hold in hand it feel cheap because the body is made of plastic.

Software

Nokia X3 is applying the Series 40 interface, which is quite easy to handle. It is actually already been used in most of Nokia non-smart handset such as  3720 classic, 6700 classic and e.t.c. Some of you might already used it without knowing it is S40 UI. Even people who have never used a Series 40 handset will be able to get used of it very fast.

Music, Radio and Video

We pretty surprise to see the old media player in Nokia X3. Yes, it is the same old application we know well from previous devices with Series 40 interface (the 5220 XpressMusic, 5130 XpressMusic). We thought that being one the new handset in new lineup, something will changed. But we are wrong. However, since the media player is easy to use, so we still okay about it. Likewise, the music player able sort tracks in relevant playlist, artist, album and genre. Also you can set your own equalizer setting or use the included setting. If you get bored of the music player’s theme, there are available themes change the appearance of the application.  Audio quality is quite good, bass is deep, and the sounds is clear and loud through the speakerphone.

There is also a stereo FM radio with RDS included along with the phone. The radio already has the built-in antenna, so you won’t need to plug in your headphone in order to listen to the Radio anymore.

For videos, X3 able to play MPEG4, H263 and H264 coded content with maximum resolution of 320×240 pixels. Considering the small and mediocre display of X3, watching video on the handset is not something enjoyable.

Camera

Nokia X3 sports a 3.2-megapixel camera. There is no flash included and it is also a typical S40 interface we have seen. Since the camera has no flash, night shoot is discourage. Even in day time, the camera also not preform well. With the maximum resolution of  320×240 pixels, you really can’t expect more from it. The camera also captures videos, but in QCIF with the rate of 15fps. Likewise, video quality is also low.

Conclusion

As for music capabilities, Nokia X3 play it role very well. But as a phone, unfortunately it is only mediocre. It is not recommended for every one, but if you more frequently use handset to listen musics rather than make calls, Nokia X3 is still a good option.
