Samsung D780 Review

Last month, Samsung has released a phone that supports two sim cards which called D780. Phone that capable handle two sim cards is not something new. Philip, WND and some Chinese phone manufacturers already has their own dual-sim handset in the market. Even Samsung itself also has released it first dual-sim phone D880 Duos. The D780 however, was released in more reasonable price tag then D880 and provide an alternative to those looking for a dual sim cards phone.

I bet that many people will mistake the Samsung D780 as one of the Sony Ericsson phone when they first look at it. The Samsung D780 is just look like Sony Ericsson G900, Sony Ericsson T250 and other Sony Ericsson candy bar style phone. At the front there is a 2.1″ QVGA display on the top, a D-pad (with two soft key at the both left and right side of it) in the middle, and a numeric keypad in the bottom which is just like typical candy bar style phone. But the large rectangle display is the point that makes it look like more similar to SE phone. However if you look carefully you still can differentiate the different between SE phone and Samsung D780.

Actually Samsung D780 has nothing special except the dual-sim capabilities. In term of functionalities, D780 is come with very common features like 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0, music player with support for MP3/WMA/e-AAC +, microSD expansion slot with up to 2GB microSD card and etc. All these features in today only can be consider as basic functions for a phone since there are many high-end phones in the market. I think people will hardly attracted by this phone if it is without the support two sim cards capabilities.

Although Samsung D780 is not an excellent phone but the dual-sim capability does get a score because there are a bunch of people owning more then one sim card, especially for the pre-paid user. Anyway, since there is lack of major phone manufactures participant in the dual sim niche, Samsung D780 may become the first choice for those who own two active sim cards.
