Samsung Galaxy I7500 Review
|
Samsung finally has released it first Android powered handset – the Samsung I7500 a.k.a. Galaxy last month. Being the second major phone maker that release Andriod’s phone, the Galaxy main rival would be the predecessor Andriod’s phone like HTC G1 and HTC Magic. And yet, it is also regarded as a potential iPhone killer by some people. So is it Samsung really got what it take to do better than HTC, or even Apple? DesignThe Samsung I7500 is look like HTC Magic. Both of them do not have a physical QWERTY keyboard, and most of the control is through the 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen (actually this is the typical form-factor for most of touchscreen phone). Image quality is great with saturated and beautiful colors. Below the display house five main buttons and a D-pad. All these buttons are large enough, no hustle to press them. At the top has the microUSB port and a lanyard eyelet as well as a standard 3.5mm audio jack which not available in HTC version of Andriod’s phones. Overall the design of Samsung Galaxy is quite roomy but compact. Measure at 115 x 56 x 11.9 mm this is the slimmest Android phone till the date and it is is thinner than both the Magic and Apple iPhone 3G. User Interface & SotfwareThe Samsung Galaxy runs version 1.5 of the Android OS and it is more widely known as the Cupcake update. However, this version of OS only has slightly different from the one in T-Mobile G1 or HTC Magic. Android 1.5 biggest progress would be the virtual Qwerty keypad and in this handset you can use the feature in both landscape and portrait mode with buttons getting larger and more comfy to press in the first case. The haptic feedback on the touchscreen when typing on the virtual keyboard is pretty nice, you can even turn on the sound feedback to get a better feel of each press you do. Consider Samsung Galaxy is an Android device, therefor the device supports Google’s various services, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps with support for Google Latitude, Street View, and more. MusicThe Music player in this handset still remain same as previous Android’s phone but now it has a music player widget for you to control the playing music without open the player. The widget will display track info and add a play/pause button and a skip button to your homescreen. Just simple tap on the widget will brings you straight to the music player. VideoThere is a video player included in Samsung Galaxy I7500. Unfurtunately, the video player does not support DivX files which is a bummer really considering that the AMOLED screen is best used when viewing high quality DivX movies. CameraThe 5MP camera in this device is just like another same range phone’s camera. It does features autofocus and geotagging and LED flash. In this version of OS, you can easily share your snapshots and videos and get them over to Picasa, YouTube or Gmail. However, other service providers like Facebook, Flickr or Photobucket is not available for the moment. Final WordsHonestly we are not impressed by Samsung Galaxy I7500, because it has nothing new to surprise us. What more, the phone is really look identical to HTC Magic in both hard and soft ware. It is not meaning Magic is better than Galaxy, but for us there are fall into same level. It is also doesn’t mean Galaxy is lousy, maybe our expectation on Samsung is too high, thought that Samsung has a better technology than HTC, but it seems we are wrong. All I had to say is both of them got the good at. |

Just to put these number in perspective, Apple sells 8M iPhones a quarter. If Samsung really manages to sell 10M Galaxy S by the end of the year, it’ll sell around 30% as many Androids as Apple sells iPhones. Now, apple might increase the iPhone sales rate, but we need to remember that the Galaxy only came out in the second quarter.
Very impressive achievement for Samsung.
