Samsung Impression Review

AT&T has introduces six new phones that under its carrier plans lately. Couple of them has been released like Nokia E75, Samsung Propel Pro, LG Xenon, LG Neon and this Samsung Impression that reviewed recently.

Design

The Impression is another side-slider form factor that come with full QWERTY keyboard. The front surface was cover by the 3.2 inches full touchscreen display with haptic feedback. The OLED displays is something no need of a backlight as the individual pixels provide their own light. Therefor, it is more vivid colors ,bright graphics, and sharp animations. On the bottom of the display are three touch controls for the phone dialer, the contacts menu, and the main menu.  When the slider open, the keys on the  Qwerty keypad are widely spaced and large, offering a soft click when pressed. Ther are also dedicated arrow keys for faster navigation. Overall the slider QWERTY keyboard is comfortable to use, though the sliding mechanism isn’t all that great.

User Interface

TouchWiz is the interface that offered by Samsung Impression. A bit different from other TouchWiz handset, the Impression’s interface Impression adds a widget-like sub-menu on the side of the display, which you can access by touching the small arrow at the top left corner of the display. What more the widget menu is completely customizable so you can add your favorite app on it.

Multimedia

The Samsung Impression has a simple media player. The player offer just the basic and typical options to choose music such as sort by artist or album, or create your own playlists. However, the external speaker works well for listen to the music and support MP3/WAV/e-AAC+/WMA/AMR music files, so it is good enough to be your mp3 player when your real mp3 player is not around.

Video playing is something a bit disappointing. The video is can’t be play in 240 by 400(full screen) and it can play MPEG4/3gp video files only. What a wast for the AMOLED display.

AT&T Service

Like those recently handset, the AT&T offer AT&T’s music download service and also AT&T’s Cellular Video service. Video streaming in this handset is quite good, not like the one in LG Xenon that was always lagging when streaming video.

Camera

Samsung Impression includes a 3 megapixel camera with video capture ability, plus a flash and Geo-tagging feature. The quality of this camera is really good. The pictures taken are accurate colors and plenty of detail. It won’t replace a dedicated high-resolution camera but good enough for any casual use.

Final Words

Samsung Impression actually almost identical to LG Xenon. Both of them share the same form factor and similar specifications. But the Samsung Impression is more advance since it got a more brilliant AMOLED display and entertainment capability. Both are excellent texter phone, but if multimedia is also you favorite part, then you are better choose Samsung Impression. Or, you just stay with the LG Xenon for the lower price (about $100 lower).
