Samsung S5600 Preston, is the upgraded version of the popular Tocco Lite. The handset also has many name depends on the region it sold, such as Halley or Samsung Player. The S5600 added offers 3G HSDPA, GPS and an improved a better camera than it predecessor. It is hit the market with the “budget” touchscreen phone slogan.

Design

The S5600 is a full touch mobile phone boasts of compact design that without a hardware numeric keyboards. Measuring 102.8 x 54.8 x 12.9 mm and 96 g, the phone makes it quite easy to fit inside any kind of pocket. The big 2.8 inch QVGA resolution touch-screen takes up the entire front side of the phone with the send and end keys that lack their specific red/green color located right below. There is a 3 megapixel camera at the back of the phone and the lens pretected by a cover. The stylish looks and appealing design of this high end mobile phone can surely boost up the persona of users.

Features

Samsung Preston features a very intuitive interface that called TouchWiz User Interface and “Gesture Lock” which allows users to fully customize and personalize the phone to suit their needs. The “Gesture Lock” feature is allows the users to unlock the phone and get access to the mobile phone directly by drawing a letter on the phone. Each menu in the phone responds to an alphabet from A to Z. Users can also add widgets onto the phone’s screen to allow one-click access to their favorite applications.
There is a facility namely Shazam’s Find Music in the mobile phone that is helpful in identifying music. And the music player able to play MP3/WMA/AAC music files. The mobile provides support to WMV, H.263, AND MPEG4 player, unfortunately, the phone not supporting DivX and Xvid format. FM radio also included in this phone but not RDS support, sadly.

S5600 got a 3-megapixel camera with a LED flash. It just like another same range phone’s camera, not bad but eager photographers will not like it. It does has a Geotaging Smile detection capability, but the sad thing is there are no photo sharing features found in this phone, so you can’t directly upload your pictures up to your social network website. However, You can also create your own QVGA resolution video clips at 15 frames per second.

Speaking to the GPS, Samsung only offer this features depend on different version of Samsung Preston. We don’t know why Samsung did this, but customer should be aware of it. The phone that has no GPS integrated will be using the GPRS instead for the Google Maps navigation system, instead.

Conclusion

Samsung S5600 Preston is perfect choice for all those craving for a full touch device but with a lower cost. The phone has a very good interface which is pretty easy to navigate, and the widgets are quite handy.  However, the multimedia capabilities in this phone is just fit the basic requirement. Overall, it is a quite nice touchscreen phone, if multimedia capabilities is not your frist choice.
