The Samsung S8000 Jet that released recently is not a smartphone, though it is touchscreen device that look like Samsung Omnia, and come with a 800 MHz application processor. However, the phone has been claims as ‘Smarter than Smartphone’ at the launch of the phone. The beneficial of Samsung not making Jet as a smartphone is to offer a lower price high-end phone for those who are willing have a fancy touchscreen phone.
Design
Like most of the touchscreen devices, the Samsung Jet also designed in the typical candy bar form factor, which most of the front was occupied by the screen. Measuring 108.8 mm (height) x 53.5 mm (width) x 11.9 mm and weighing just 110grams, the handset may not the lightest or slimmest touching device out there, but the compact and solid built of the body make it comfortable hold in hand. The phone is proud to have a 3.1-inch display with 16 mln colors and WVGA resolution. The vivid and colorful display promise to let you top-notch image quality. Besides of the fingers, the screen also react with stylus, pencil, nails, gloves, etc. Below the display, there are a send and end buttons and a key with prismatic shape and at the top of the phone you will see microUSB port and a 3.5mm jack.
User Interface
Samsung S8000 Jet comes with the latest edition of the home-baked TouchWiz interface. In this version of interface there are a feature caleld 3D Media gate where you can launched by a short press of the dedicated button right above the shutter key. This shows six sides on a floating cube, which you can spin to show the Music Player, Video Player, FM Radio, Games, Internet and your photos in Album, similar to similarly to the LG Arena that giving you access to all manner of multimedia applications. Holding the button that loads the cube interface gets you to the so called Motion Gate, where two shortcuts are to be found, which can be assigned functions to your own liking through the settings menu. Either of them can be selected by shaking the phone and controlled through the accelerometer.
Music
The Samsung Jet has a fairly basic music player. The music player has some advanced features such as custom playlists, track filtering, album art and Find Music which, function to record sections of a track and query the database to find out what it is. The new option here is the ‘5.1 ch’ button which, when activated, makes the player do its best to emulate 5.1 channel sound on normal stereo headphones and the sounds quality of this phone is is pretty decent.
Video
Watching video on Samsung Jet is a enjoyable. Not to mention the 3.1″ screen that can play video files in fullscreen landscape mode (auto-rotated), the video player also manages to play DivX and Xvid content with 720 pixels width. There is also a same 5.1 channel option when you plug in a headset for better audio quality when you are watching movie on this phone.
Camera
The camera on the Samsung S8000 Jet has 5 mega pixels of resolution, an dual LED flash and auto focus. The camera allow to take photos with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. Samsung have also included some advanced camera features like smile detection ,face detection, fast motion shooting of up to 9 frames and blink detection. Images quality is excellent, the images have nice contrast, precise colors and good amount of resolved detail.
In term of video recording, the camera allows video captured at a maximum resolution of 720×480 and 30 frames and there is a slow motion option at 120fps. Video quality is very good too. Overall we are satisfied by what the camera has delivered.
Final Words
Generally, we have to admit the Samsung S8000 Jet is a wonderful handset. The multimedia capabilities is strong and it is definitely more than decent mid-range device.
