Since last year, Samsung has launched a variety of touchscreen handset in the market and Samsung has built it reputation in this niche with the excellent model such as Samsung Omnia, Eternity, Behold, Impression and etc.The latest in the series of Samsung models is the Samsung T749 Highlight which is exclusively for T-Mobile.

Design

Samsung Highlight is sleek in design and measures about 108mm by 54mm by 13.7mm and the weight of 105g. Although the phone look a little bit chunky but it is extremely good to hold and pocket-friendly with the round edges design. Up front is the 3.0 inches display that shows 16 million colors with resolution of 400×240 pixels.  The display quality is quite decent – bright colors, sharp photos, and vibrant graphics. Below the display are the Highlight’s sole physical navigation controls – The Talk, End/power, and clear buttons. On the left spine, you will see the large volume rocker buttons while on the right spine houses the camera shutter, display locking switch, and combination headset/charger jack.   And finally a you will also found camera lens sits on the back next to a speaker.

The Samsung T749 Highlight is not a smartphone so there are no OS running on this phone. However the phone featuring Samsung’s TouchWizTM user interface which is well knowns as there customizable icon-based menu interface.  At the bottom of the display there are permanent touch controls that for the main menu, the Web browser, the phone book, and the phone dialer which is replace the physical keys. The touching experience is great because the display is so responsive with no noticeable lag. Not only you can change the brightness, the backlight time, the font type, you are also able to change intensity of the vibrating feedback.

Music player in this handset is simple and easy to use. There are six equalizer settings in this player and can play the tracks in  playlists, shuffle and repeat modes. The sound clarity is so perfect and the the volume isn’t very loud. It should had a better speaker.

The device also spot a 3.15 MP camera. But unfurtunately there are no self-portrait mirror and flash come with it. You can take picture with the resolution from 2,048×1,536 pixels down to 400×240 pixels. Image quality is quite decent if you take the photo at the bright place. Besides, the camera also come with video recording capabilities. Unlike in take a photo, the camcoder shoots clips with sound in two resolutions – 320×240 pixels and 176×144 pixels.

The most common features in this phone that you always see are like vibrate mode, text and multimedia messaging, a calendar, a calculator, a memo pad, an alarm clock, a world clock, a timer, a currency and unit converter, and a speakerphone. Besides, there are also some of the advanced features besides these traditional features like the speakers with smashing sound quality, voice dialling commands, a file manager, e-mail, and GPS support with the unique unit of Telenav Navigator and the Bluetooth facility to communicate between two devices.

Conclusion

The Samsung T749 Highlight isn’t a handset that come with new and eye-catching features. In fact, all those features are already seen in other phone. However, it works quite well as an entry-level touchscreen phone. If you are a touchscreen lover that can’t afford for those fancy high end touchscreen phone, then Samsung T749 Highlight is a good alternative.
