c905-review-specs Sony Ericsson C905 Review- First 8.1 MP Camera Phone

While other phone makers are still struggling in the 5MP camera battle, Sony Ericsson already one step further by released its 8.1MP camera phone-Sony Ericsson C905. From an industry-leading 8.1-megapixel camera and loads of imaging functions to connectivity options that include Wi-Fi, HSDPA and GPS, the Cyber-shot phone certainly has it all. But is that all for C905? Let’s take a look deeper.

Design
Measuring 104.0 x 49.0 x 18.0 mm and weighing 136 grams, the Sony Ericsson C905 is big. It is not like other slim line candy bar phones we have all become used to. On the front, there is a 2.4″ scratch-resistant 256K colors TFT display with the resolution 240 x 320 pixels. Notice that above the display there is a pair of shortcut keys encloses the earpiece frame. These keys are use for gaming/photo applications, such as starts the image gallery, opening the latest image and other functions in camera mode.

Below the display is a D-pad that sided by two columns of controls. Each is topped by a soft key, a bulging Call (left) and End key (right) in the middle. The D-pad is big enough making you easier to press on it. Beside as a direction controlling key, the D-pad can be use for imaging-related controls likes focus mode; exposure, flash control and self-timer.

The alphanumeric keyboard is hidden under the front panel and will show up when the phone is slide up. Although the keyboard is flat but the button is well spaced so it is no problem for your thumbs to press on it. The ultimate 8 MP camera is on the rear side and there is a cover to protect it. Once the cover is open, the lens and all the entourage get revealed - there’s xenon flash, self-portrait mirror, video light and video microphone. Overall, the design of C905 is great. But it would be nicer if the size is smaller.

Multimedia

There is a Media Center in Sony Ericsson C905 which contained by multimedia files. So you can find your Photo, Music, Video, RSS feeds and Settings icons in this center. Inside the Photo gallery you will see Latest Photo, Camera Album, Photo Tags, Photo Feeds, and Pictures. Latest Photo provides quick access to most recent photos. And it is also conveniently managing a vast collection of camera photos with great customization capabilities. You can send as Picture Msg, as email, to blog, via Bluetooth or set your wallpaper, screen saver, startup screen, and contact picture straight from the gallery.

In Music mode, the Music Player 3.0 is use to play your favorites songs. Its supports numerous file formats, including MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC +, WAV, WMA, M4A and MIDI plus the MegaBass equalizer preset and Stereo widening. The music quality is quite good, but still a bit lower then Walkman phones. To enjoy a better music, perhaps you should use the player with a good headset

And for the video player, it supports fast-forwarding, rewinding and auto-rotate functionality (due to the built-in motion censor). The player allows you watch the video in Landscape or Fullscreen mode and even save a frame of video and add it to the gallery.

In C905, there is also a come with an integrated FM radio that have a memory for 20 stations and supports RDS and TrackID

Camera

In addition to the 8.1-megapixel sensor, there is face detection, a smart contrast function that balances light and colour, a Xenon flash, Photo Flash and Sony Ericsson’s BestPic function, which takes seven photos as you press and release the shutter button, to ensure you get the best picture possible. You can also use the 16 x digital zoom to get up close to their subject or with the dedicated macro mode you can even take images from as close as 10 cm. Beside of that the anti red eye feature and built in image stabiliser which avoids the user producing a wobbly image.
The C905 is capable of maximum image resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels with average file size of about 2.5 MB.

On the video-recording front, the camera can record up to 30fps at QVGA resolution. Likewise, the video stabilizer and LED light also can be use for video recording. Actually the camera in C905 feels like a regular camera, with zoom, review, video and shutter buttons. And we can see that phone’s camera will definitely replace the digital camera in the future.

GPS
The C905 comes with an A GPS navigation system which supports Google maps (free) or Wayfinder Navigator software (extra subscription cost) allows you to get directions and the best possible routes when making a journey. Beside as a navigation system, the integrated GPS also allows image geotagging features which putting a standard GPS coordinates in the images that you take. You can enable geotagging (Add position) from the settings to add GPS location data to your pictures.

Final words
Well, that is a short review for the Sony Ericsson C905. We can tell that the Sony Ericsson C905 is an excellent handset. Obviously the photography tools are first class for a phone but other features of this phone remains in high standard. It is the first 8.1 MP camera phone in the market and become the new standard for other camera phones. I think we will see other 8MP camera phone hit the market very soon.
